History of Ram Mandir and Babri Masjid

1528 | Mir Baqi, a commander in the Mughal emperor Babur constructed the Babri Masjid on the ruins of the Hindu Temple.

1751 | Maratha sought control of Ayodhya, and they started shaping the course of the Ayodhya dispute.

1858 | Nihang Sikha makes a claim to Babri Masjid as Lord Ram's birthplace. 

1885 | Raghubar Das, a priest of the Nirmohi Akhara, filed the first suit seeking permission to build a temple in the outer courtyard of the Mosque.

1949 | Ram Lalla idols were placed inside the Babri Masjid.

1950 - 59 | This decade witnessed a surge in legal suits between Nirmohi Akhara and the Sunni Central Waqf Board.

1986 - 89 | Locks of Babri Masjid were opened, allowing Hindus to worship inside.

1990 | LK Advani's Rath Yatra aimed to mobilize support for the temple.  Attempts were made to Demolish Mosque.

1992 | Babri Masjid was demolished despite the Supreme Court's assurance.

1993 - 94 | Communal riots erupted in India after Babri Masjid demolition.

2002 - 03 | A case was initiated in Allahabad court, this was in the favour of Hindus.  There was evidence supporting the existence of a Hindu temple beneath the Mosque.

2019 | The Supreme Court awarded the entire disputed land to Hindus for the construction of Ram Mandir.

2020 | Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Ram Temple.

2024 | On January 22, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the consecration ceremony of the lord Ram Lalla, marking the official inauguration of Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
