New Jobs in Forest Survey of India

The Forest Survey of India (FSI) is the national organization responsible for the assessment and monitoring of the forest resources of India. It functions under the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change. FSI was founded in 1981 and is headquartered in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

FSI conducts a variety of surveys and assessments of forest resources, including:

  • Forest cover assessment: FSI uses satellite imagery to assess the forest cover of India on a biennial basis. The forest cover report is published every two years and provides information on the total forest cover of the country, as well as the changes in forest cover over time.
  • Forest inventory: FSI conducts forest inventory surveys to collect data on the tree stock and other forest resources in India. The forest inventory report is published every 10 years and provides detailed information on the composition, growing stock, and other aspects of India’s forests.
  • Bamboo survey: FSI conducts bamboo surveys to assess the bamboo resources of India. The bamboo survey report is published every five years and provides information on the total bamboo area, bamboo volume, and other aspects of India’s bamboo resources.
  • Special studies: FSI also conducts special studies on a variety of topics related to forest resources, such as forest fires, forest health, and climate change.

FSI’s surveys and assessments play an important role in providing information for the sustainable management of India’s forest resources. The data collected by FSI is used by the government, forest departments, and other stakeholders to develop and implement forest policies and programs.
